Spring into Spring! – 2 Days Ago but Still Useful!
Spring started two days ago on
March 20th! It brings to mind …
flowers and showers and tulips
and outdoors and sports and general
happy times. You can use this in
your marketing! Don’t miss out on a ”Spring into Spring” campaign, particularly good for selling Car Care Club memberships for a small discount. And those April showers are great for promoting brakes, tires and wiper blades, as well as air conditioning as it gets warm out there! Don’t under-estimate the power of wiper blades, they’re cheap to you, high value to customers, and they give you a great excuse to get someone to come in! Ride the Spring wave and let joy overflow for your shop!

Easter – April 8th
Easter is fun because it can be so many different things – it religious
and it’s fun for kids and adults! Have an adult easter egg hunt, let
customers pick an egg out of the basket for a prize, give away
chocolate eggs (especially the delicious Reese’s ones!!).

Tax Day – April 15th (actually April 17th this year)
You can even take advantage of not-so-happy days – like Tax Day! Send
out a mailer that LOOKS LIKE an IRS refund check. It’s sure to get
opened (even if they’re not expecting a refund) and it can let your
customers know that you want to help them with a discount, just for
coming in! It works for you whether they have to pay or they are
expecting a refund. I can take care of the mailers for you at
http://bit.ly/IRSRefunds. Super easy!

The best way to take advantage of these terrific promotional ideas
(with about 15 minutes of effort on your part each month!) is the
monthly print newsletter – THE BRAKING NEWS NEWSLETTER. Learn more at

TODAY! The Oreo Cookie is 100 Years Old! – TODAY!

If today needs a little flavor, one of the world’s most delectable
treats turns 100 today … the Oreo cookie! These heavenly,
sugar-packed confections always bring a smile to anyone’s face. Keep
it simple. Run down to the store and get a bunch of packages of 6
packs (like for lunch packing). Give them to every customer who comes
in this week as a special treat. Put it on your reader board and tell
your fans on Facebook. Easy and people will love the treat!

St. Patrick’s Day – March 17th

St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Saturday this year. It could be a painful
day for this holiday associated with alcohol comsumption and
indulgence. The key for using St. Patrick’s Day in your marketing is -
to get on board! Become part of the party! Run out the party store
and get hats and green beaded necklaces for customers next week (and
don’t forget your employees!). St. Patrick’s Day is all about LUCK!
So give your client’s a chance to win something! For a referral, they
can slip their hand into the pot of gold to win a prize! Give the kids
Chocolate Gold Coins! Give your shop a party atmosphere and the energy
will bring in customers! Don’t try to explain it – just go with it!
It works!

Do We Care If They Come Back?

January 27, 2012

I actually got asked this by someone who is very focused on new client acquisition. Do we care??? Only if we want to stay in business! The key to this is recognizing that every marketing dollar you spend is not the same. Once someone likes and trusts you, it’s easy (read: cheap) to get them [...]

Fundamentals, Man

September 16, 2011

Geez, I hate it when my high school volleyball coach gets proved right. Every day at volleyball practice, we would practice the serve and the first pass. EVERY DAY! We all wanted to spike and block and try fancy combinations. And every day, pass and serve, pass and serve. It was boring and monotonous. And [...]

The Power of Momentum

September 8, 2011

I was having lunch with a friend who also owns her own business. She stopped and said “Do you realize we only have 16 weeks left in 2011?” She went on to stay she was scared because she didn’t have much going on. She felt like she was starting over in some ways. When she [...]

Customer Service Starring 7-Eleven

September 6, 2011

When someone pulls off really great customer service, I like to give them a personal atta-boy. And today’s atta-boy goes out to the 7-Eleven at 30th Ave and 16th St in St Petersburg. When I dropped in for coffee on Friday morning, the decaf was still brewing (constant source of humor for me: this 7-Eleven [...]

The Holy Grail of Leads

August 31, 2011

So we all know that the #1 BEST, AWESOME-EST, PRIMO prospect is our own current client list, right? Nay! I say! The Holy Grail of prospects is actually your own current client ADVOCATE. What’s an advocate? It’s a current client who drinks your kool-aid. It’s a current client who’s a raving, lunatic fan of yours. [...]

Fake It Til You Make It

July 14, 2011

Of course you’ve heard the expression, right? I just finished the great book The Year of Living Biblically by A.J. Jacobs. Perhaps his biggest takeaway from living LITERALLY by the Bible is that behavior DOES shape beliefs. By acting reverent, he became reverent. By acting generous, he became generous. For those of us from the [...]

Powerful and Productive Mondays

June 6, 2011

A friend of mine told me that Monday is the most productive day of her week. It sets up her momentum for the whole week. So I’ve been focusing on tuning-up my Mondays to become the Powerful and Productive engines that they could be! And here’s what I’ve come up with so far: 1. Work [...]

Visiting Hawaii – My Recommendations for Maui

March 23, 2011

I just returned from Maui! I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did because I figured we have a lot of it here in St Petersburg – beaches, outdoor activities, sunsets, etc. I’m pleased to say that it was wonderful! The people were very friendly and the weather was glorious. So here [...]
